Use Social Media but dont let it use you. Years ago, I scoffed at the idea of Social Media. Its not that I didnt see the power in it (I did), but it was more the idea of it that rubbed me the wrong way. I thought it was anything BUT Social. Naturally, I was wrong and Ive talked about how I came to that realization in past posts so I wont bore you with that :) Today I enjoy Social Media and use it pretty much every day. Through Social Media, Im able to keep in touch and engage with family, friends and colleagues on an almost daily basis. I look forward to reading your posts and appreciate when you read mine. Im often touched by many of the posts I read and hopefully, Im able to touch some lives with the things I have to say as well. We now live in an era where authenticity is everything and being completely transparent is a pre requisite. For many, this is a difficult concept to swallow because it feels uncomfortable. Its not easy to put your truest most honest self out there for all to judge. Its much easier to instead put a version of yourself out there and play it safe. Ive never been able to tow the line and couldnt if I tried. Theres something incredibly liberating about opening up to a large group of friends and strangers on the internet. Being open is being vulnerable and being vulnerable is being real. Im sure at times people have judged me based on the things Ive written. Good for them! Use Social Media as a sounding board! Instead of putting out some politically correct, my life is just dandy kind of post (and checking every five minutes to see if people liked or commented on it), open your soul and talk about....you. Whats the worst that can happen? Youll be laughed at? Be honest and be open, what do you have to loose? If you dont, youll never get the most out of Social Media not to mention connect with all the kindred spirits that are out there waiting to hear what you have to say.
