Use or Non-use of ATM, the Nigerian Bank Customer is Damned! It - TopicsExpress

Use or Non-use of ATM, the Nigerian Bank Customer is Damned! It seems that, as regards banking in Nigeria, head or tail, the bank customer loses! First, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Banks went about town, urging Nigerians to make less use of banking halls. They demanded we make frequent use of ATMs, POS, internet banking, to aid their confused cashless policy. They resolved to penalize us if we withdrew below specified amounts of cash across the counter. We then embraced the ATMs and other outside-the-banking hall transactions. What did we see? Either non-functional (system failure-prone) or cashless ATMs! You see Nigerians roaming the streets in search of functional and cash-backed ATMs. On top of that, they decreed again that we can’t withdraw more than a specified amount of cash from ATMs daily. This, they said, also aligns with their chaotic “cashless” banking. One cant make withdrawals as one needs across the counter or via ATM! They had imposed N100 monthly as ATM charge, irrespective of whether a customer used the ATM or not. We cried out. After a while, they dropped it and we heaved a sigh of relief. They came up with another charge/penalty anytime one used another bank’s ATM. Later, they justifiably reversed themselves. But they have suddenly done a volte-face, re-imposing the charge for use of other banks’ ATMs! Haba! Why are all banking policies in Nigeria mostly anti-customer? This is added to the customer’s daily battle with hidden bank charges and unsatisfactory banking services!
