Used Car Buying Opinions: I’ve pretty much figured out by now that our magic price is between $6 – 7k. I’ve also realized that unless you have at least $2 – 2.5k down that no one will even talk to you about financing…..…regardless of the fact that you will be paying up to 20.95% APR for an overpriced SUV that needs new tires and will never be anywhere near the Blue Book quality their price says it should be. It’s nice to talk to someone on the phone and after you explain your needs they say, ”c’mon down and we’ll work something out”. But when you pull up on a bike, introduce yourself and apologize for being a couple minutes late because your boss just called you into work on your day off, and then they sit staring at their computer screen for the next twenty minutes while giving you “options” without bothering to even offer to take you out to look at the vehicle or even make eye contact with you again…… …….you begin to realize that they are treating you like just another shitbum looking for a free car. And even after I thanked him for his time and told him I would be in touch if my finances changed his eyes never left the computer screen. Maybe I should have told him that I have worked the same job for the past 7+ years without ever calling in, missing a day or being late. Maybe I should have told him that the last time I was without a vehicle I walked all winter when it was below zero at 12:30 in the morning the mile and a half each way as well as lugging kerosene and groceries all winter. Maybe I should have just punched him in the mouth and taken out his kneecap I have just two words for him……….and they aren’t Merry Christmas. And “arrogant prick” just doesn’t come close.
