Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense 2 Chronicles chapter 26 verse 19 Uzziah had a long reign as king of Judah. He did that which was right in the sight of the LORD. There is a deep truth given here as we are told that “as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.” (2 Chronicles 26:5) How true this is with a life in Christ. When we are rooted and grounded in Him having His righteousness then “the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” (Psalm 92:12) God helped Uzziah “God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians.” (2 Chronicles 26:7) He built towers and digged wells. He had much cattle, husbandmen and vine dressers. There were mighty men of valor and a vast army. All was going really well for him. He had all he needed and the LORD was for him. However, he overstepped the mark and sought to do that which was not his to do. “But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God.” (2 Chronicles 26:16) Uzziah had gone into the temple with the intention of burning incense upon the altar of the LORD. This was not his to do as there were those whom the LORD had instructed to undertake this office. Whilst Uzziah had the censer in his hand “the leprosy even rose in his forehead.” (2 Chronicles 26:19) The Christian walk is not to please ourselves but to “humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6) This is because Christ is to be given the pre-eminence at all times.
