VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT LESOTHO HIGHLANDS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ADVERTISEMENT The bi-national Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), of the Kingdom of Lesotho (KOL) and the Republic of South Africa (RSA) is aimed at harnessing the water resources of the highlands of Lesotho for the mutual advantage of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa. The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) was set up to implement and operate that part of the LHWP that falls within the borders of Lesotho. LHDA is to embark on Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), a multi-billion rand Phase involving large scale civil engineering and socio-environmental aspects. The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified Lesotho Nationals for the position of SHIFT ELECTRICAL, CONTROL AND PROTECTION TECHNICIAN TRAINEE in the ‘MUELA OPERATIONS BRANCH. Position: SHIFT ELECTRICAL/CONTROL AND PROTECTION TECHNICIAN TRAINEE (1 POSITION) HR/SECPT/14A/29/04/14 Qualifications: Diploma in Electrical Engineering Experience: The incumbent shall be exposed to on the job training, assignments and projects to gain critical competencies. Essential Requirements for the Post: •Fully conversant with the operational principles of a hydro power plant. •Familiar with the use of electrical/electronic measuring devices, special tools and workshop equipment. •Capable of interpreting electrical drawings e.g. Schematic, wiring diagrams and control circuits •Fully conversant with electro-hydraulic control systems •Must have problem-solving and analytical skills •Computer literacy: MS programs •Capable of working with minimum supervision •Ability to identify potential problem areas and deal with them pro-actively. •Ability to maintain administrative control over the systems, procedures and activities for which they are responsible. •Must possess a two (2) years valid driver’s license. Purpose: To safely and reliably operate and carry out the preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, control and protection equipment and plant associated with the facilities of the LHWP in accordance with operating plans, procedures and rules under the guidance of the Shift Supervisor. Major Tasks and Performance Requirements: •Reports to the Shift Supervisor. •Operates and maintains LHWP assets at Muela (including both the transfer and delivery tunnels). •Participates in safety programs by submitting inputs to the Safety Officer on request •Enforces the Branch Safety Regulations at all times •Facilitates the implementation of policies and procedures pertaining to SHE programs within the unit •Contributes in the Production of the monthly key performance indicators for the plant by providing relevant information when requested. •Any other duties that may be reasonably assigned from time to time.
