VALUE YOUR VOWS The door bell chimed twice. Abruptly, Mary Jane walked into the cafe where she usually had coffee with her colleagues. Her countenance evinced something unsual about her this time, somthing vague inspite of her phony smile. Loretta, her intimate childhood friend, didnt want to intrude; so, she kept quiet for a while, glancing at her with many questions turning in her mind. As she sat down, Mary Jane sighed heavily, and just like her smile, the sigh seemed strange and vague! Was it a sigh of suppressed deep sorrow and melancholy or simply a normal sigh of relief, Loretta wondered! Perhaps the former, for she looked profoundly unhappy, and didnt utter a single word. She just sat calmly, wistfully fixing her eyes on the TV, or thus she appeared while actually looking far beyond the TV set. Loretta finally thought it was her duty to ask and know what had made her friend lapse into such a state of apprent sorrow. She asked, Whats up with you, MJ? You looked all worked up Sunk in silence, Mary Jane didnt respond to her friends questions. Thus, Loretta got increasingly worried and thought it must be something serious. She grabbed Mary Jane by the wrist, and dragged her outside, a little distance from the cafe. Mary Jane started breathing deeply as if she was stifling and in much need of fresh air. They remained silent for a while, standing side by side and stretching their sights far away at the cafe. Loretta broke the silence. How long have we known each other, MJ? Mary Jane winked an eye at her as she asked the question. A very long time now, She continued. We grew up together; so, I know, This must be serious. Talk to me please. You know you can talk to me about anything... I left him! Mary Jane exclaimed unexpectedly. You left who? Loretta asked, unsure of what her friend meant. ... To be continued.
