VELLORE: A woman murdered the three-year- old son of her lover in Vellore to take revenge on his wife for humiliating her in public about the illicit relationship. Police said P Sumathi, 28, killed the boy and stuffed his body among her clothes in her wardrobe. She later joined the boys relatives in searching for him after his parents lodged a missing complaint. Police recovered the body from the womans wardrobe on Friday night and arrested her. M Dinesh, son of H Murali, 30, a dhobi residing in Anna Nagar in Muthumandapam, went missing on Friday afternoon. Murali lodged a complaint and a police team led by inspector A T Ramachandran, which was searching for the missing boy, received a tip off around 11pm on Friday about the possible involvement of Sumathi, Muralis neighbour. The team reached Sumathis house and found the boys body stuffed in her wardrobe. The child was found gagged and his limbs tied up. On interrogation, Sumathi, who is married to Prabhu, a painter, confessed to murdering the child, police said. Ramachandran said there were rumours that the accused and the boys father had a relationship and his mother, also called Sumathi, had publicly humiliated her on several occasions. The accused admitted she had an affair with Murali. She claimed she broke up with him six months ago. But, as the boys mother continued to publicly insult her, she decided to take revenge, Ramachandran said. Sumathi, a mother of two children, lured Dinesh into her house. She then tied his limbs and gagged him to prevent him from raising an alarm. The woman pressed a pillow on his face and strangled him, police said. After stuffing the body in the wardrobe, she sprayed chili powder to prevent sniffer dogs from locating the body, they said. Sumathi was booked under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 201 and produced before a magistrate, who remanded her in judicial custody.
