VERY IMPORTANT ADVICE FOR MARRIED WOMEN AND MEN ON SUCCESSION: 1. Under Section 27 of the Succession Act of Uganda, if a man dies without making a will, then the wife, or wives are only entitled to ONLY 15% of the mans property and you as the woman, together with your children might end up fighting for this property with relatives etc. To avoid any confusion after your husbands death, please advise your husband to write a Will as soon as possible. 2. As a married woman, get photocopies of all properties owned by your husband, and have an interest in his businesses e.g ask questions about how the business is run, which accounts and properties the business owns etc. This will come in handy if he unexpectedly dies, or upon divorce because you will be entitled to some of that property. 3. And to you married men and women out there, but especially to you married men, ensure that there will be a smooth distribution of your property when you die and that your family, relatives, dependents etc will not fight over your property when you die. This means you need to write a Will, and that Will needs to be valid and lawful otherwise the fights over your property upon your death will tear your family apart and leave your legacy in ruins. PS1: You can download a template of a Will from our website free of charge. PS2: Please inform all your relatives, friends and in laws to avoid confusion after their deaths and ensure they make a Will.
