VERY URGENT: PLEASE SHARE! FRIEND-LESS, LONELY DOG who is fretting to death desperately needs a home by Christmas! QUEENIES STORY *** Queenie is NOT in Heavenly Creatures care. If you are interested in adopting or fostering her, you need to contact the city shelter, Humane Services, which is on Higgins Line. They are open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow, and from 12 noon to 4 p.m. this Monday and Tuesday. Their number is 576-6126 (if you are calling this weekend, ask for Kim. If its Mon or Tues, ask for Lisa). Theres nothing sadder than a heartbroken dog, and Queenie has has hers broken twice lately. Are you that special person or family that Queenie has been longing for? Could you perhaps be her Christmas miracle, the one who could help mend her heart and revive her spirit? As I type this, Queenie is pacing in her kennel from loneliness and misery. As you go about your Christmas shopping today, Queenie will be so stressed she may start frothing at the mouth again. Or she may just sit there despondently not making a sound - she has become so depressed lately that she has stopped barking. This is how her behaviour has been described to me by a friend of HCs who works at Humane Services, which is why she and the other staff members are worried sick about Queenie. Theyre afraid that she will get physically sick from the stress, and wind up having to be euthanized. They close for Christmas in four days, and know she will be even more stressed because there will be fewer staff around during the holidays to keep her company. Queenie is a four-year-old Lab cross who was born on Nov. 5th, 2010. Queenie is spayed, vaccinated, housetrained, good with children (not cats, though), and good with medium to larger size dogs who share her energy - she is in desperate need of a friend to play with. Queenie is brindle and black in colour, and is about 50 pounds. She needs an active home (she has energy to burn - she is what you would call very hyper!) and a home that includes another dog for company for her. Why is Queenie so miserable? Queenie has been at the shelter for months, and being in a kennel is harder on her than most dogs. This is compounded by the fact that since she lost her family, and has been at the shelter she has suffered two hard losses - she lost her sister, and then she lost her best friend. She was bonded with both dogs. First her sister was adopted, and Queenie fell to pieces. Queenie came around again after she made friends with a dog named Chester. She and Chester were the best of pals, and then Chester was adopted, leaving Queenie alone once more. Queenie has been beside herself since losing Chester; Im told its painful to watch her. There are no other suitable (i.e. energetic and playful) dogs at the shelter for the staff to pair her with, so Queenie is suffering terribly. There must be a person or family out there who would be the right fit for this poor girl. Ideally, she needs an adoptive home. Humane Services doesnt usually allow fostering, but will make an exception in this case to get her out of the shelter and back into a home environment. Please call them at 576-6126, or visit the shelter on Higgins Line (behind the Confed. Building) if you can help.
