VIA AN EMAIL : WHAT WENT WRONG AT BRIGHTFARMS? Attend March 19th at 7:30 pm at the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors meeting, 1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley, PA 19067 BrightFarms, the highly publicized New York City greenhouse construction and management company assured elected officials in Bucks County, PA they could grow year-round crops, yet during their first year of operation on the township owned Patterson Farm BrightFarms have not produced a product for several months. What went wrong? Is the BrightFarms business plan financially viable? A representative from BrightFarms of NYC will visit Bucks County to attend the March 19th meeting of the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors. Paul Lightfoot is scheduled to give a status update on BrightFarms experimental greenhouse, and to answer questions from the public. BrightFarms claims they merely ceased production to upgrade their new $2 million facility that opened in March 2013. Is that the truth? Or did staffing issues, crop failures, and damage from freezing weather shut down the complex that was built on prime farmland the taxpayers paid to preserve? What long-term financial impact does the reconstruction of the BrightFarms facility have on taxpayers? Will the employees who were promised green jobs be called back to work? How have the numerous dumpsters full of waste generated by the BrightFarms operation & reconstruction impacted the companys green image? Was it worth ousting a proven Bucks County vegetable farmer from the land so the BrightFarms experimental complex could be built? The Bucks County Open Space Board opposed the construction of the BrightFarms complex on Open Space land, calling it a gift to the developer. BrightFarms has significantly altered a section of Patterson Farms irreplaceable farmland. Land the taxpayers paid to preserve for future generations. Will BrightFarms reconstructed facility finally be able to produce a marketable product? Attend this important meeting. Ask questions, and be informed about what is happening on Bucks Countys Open Space land! Please SHARE!
