VICTORY!! After an all-day mediation yesterday, Western Center attorneys, along with co-counsels settled Murphy v. Housing Authority of the County of Kern, which was a challenge to lack of due process in termination of Section 8 housing vouchers. Under the agreement, the five plaintiffs will get their vouchers reinstated. And HACK has agreed to a whole range of changes in its hearing procedures, including hiring of qualified, unbiased hearing officers, refraining from terminating tenants on grounds other than required by federal law, and training its staff in proper procedures.
