VICTORY FOR CALAQUENOS! mb.ph/news-in-brief-62/ COURT ORDERS FIRM: PAY TAX TO CALACA The Regional Trial Court of Makati has denied the appeal of Semirara Mining Corporation filed to avoid paying business taxes amounting to P66.69 million to the Municipality of Calaca in Batangas. “Wherefore, premises considered, that instant appeal is denied. Semirara is liable for business tax for the portion of its coal sales consummated at Calaca, Batangas,” the Makati RTC said. Semirara disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange that, on February 26, 2007, it filed a complaint before the RTC of Makati City, Branch 137 appealing the tax assessment of the Municipality of Calaca for alleged deficiency business tax in the amount of P66.69 million covering calendar year 2003, 2004 and 2005.
