VIDEO OF THE DAY: We Were Born To Be Loved by Kings X featuring Jerry Gaskill In honor of Jerry Gaskills 57th birthday yesterday, heres a great live video of Kings X performing one of our all time favorites! The band sounds incredible delivering their famous 3-part vocal harmonies and signature brand of rock that combines influences like progressive rock, metal, funk, soul, gospel, and blues. If youre not familiar with the Kings X, you NEED to check them out! For over 30 years, Jerry Gaskill has been the drummer for Kings X. Jerry grew up in a very musical family with both his dad and brother being guitar players. The three actually started an all-instrumental band called Jerry and the Knights. Jerry played his first bar gig when he was seven years old with this group and was paid $2 for his efforts. Besides being a drummer, Jerry is also an accomplished vocalist and songwriter. In 2004, Jerry released Come Somewhere, his first solo album. He wrote all of the material himself and performed all of the vocals, most of the acoustic guitars, and some electric guitar. Kings X bandmate, Ty Tabor, who produced the album, contributed some guitar and keyboards. This is a definite must have for any Kings X fan! On February 25, 2012, Jerry suffered a heart attack and was rushed to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. After his release from a very long hospital stay, he posted a video message on Facebook, thanking everyone who had supported him through his illness and then married his long term partner, Julie, in Las Vegas. In November of the same year, Jerry’s New Jersey home was completely destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. In September of this year, Jerry suffered another setback when he had another heart attack and underwent double bypass surgery. Thankfully, hes on the road to a healthy and speedy recovery. Despite the taxing two years that hes had, Jerry remains extremely positive and optimistic as usual. In fact, Jerry claims his life is the best it’s ever been – he feels heathy, he’s never been happier, he bought a new home in New Jersey, and he’s still able to perform and create music with his bandmates. Jerry Gaskill is a truly inspiring individual on so many levels.
