VIETNAM: CAT MEAT MEAL Vietnamese cat eaters slaughtered and ate so many cats the government banned the commercial sale of cat meat, however many cat restaurants still do a roaring trade in Saigon and Hanoi. Cats are not only killed in restaurants, pet cats which are found wandering on the street are often captured, slaughtered and eaten in people’s private homes. South Vietnam is home to Cat City, which at its peak offered a large choice of cat restaurants to choose from, but in recent times a number of the smaller cat restaurants have closed down. Cat City is famous for the dish known as “Boiled Alive Cat,” where the customer chooses which live cat he wants to eat, then watches the cat boiled alive, before eating it.
