VIEWER QUESTION: (South Korea vs NYC) I always hear people saying that its more expensive to buy groceries in Korea (and I dont just mean like Western foods, but like Korean groceries too) than it is to eat out. So do you find that thats true and do you eat out a lot more? Idk, no matter how expensive groceries can be, I feel like spending $15-$20 a day on eating out would still be more expensive. Or am I overestimating that? Lol. MY ANSWER: Yes, It is a lot more expensive to do grocery shopping in Korea. A lot more. Let me give you an idea. Grapes that are usually $1.99 in NY is $7 here. 6 apples are around $13 at my grocery store. 6 APPLES lol. Peanut butter that is $1.79 in NYC is around $8 here. I bought 6 tiny tangerines for $4.50 the other day. Usually that would cost around $1. Eating out in Korean restaurants is much cheaper. You can get kimbap or tteok for $2 and be full. You can also have a more extensive meal with meat and tons of side dishes for $10-$12. Tax & service is already included in the cheap prices so you dont tip and pay extra tax like you do in America. In NYC I cooked only. In Korea I eat out more. The only downside to eating out in Korea is that they use a lot of salt, rice, noodles, and pork in their food. All stuff I barely ate back in the U.S. If you are a healthy eater like I was back in the U.S. then Korean food is not very healthy. If you were not a health conscious person then Korean food is extremely healthy because they use a lot of veggies in their dishes which we dont find in American take out and meals. I have realized that I need to suck it up and buy the expensive groceries and cook food how I normally eat it. Which is what I am starting to do. Hope I answered your question!
