VIGIL SERVICE TO COMMEMORATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DECLARATION OF WW1 The Bishop of Newcastle, and the Catholic Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle, with a large congregation and guests from federal and local governments, the military, RSL, and other service organisations, used the wonderful choral and organ music, Bible readings, poetry and prayers to reflect on the impact of the declaration of World War I 100 years ago. The service opened with the distant sound of bagpipes, and candles were gradually extinguished to represent the lights going out all over Europe in WWI.
