VILLAGES OF BLOOM TOWNSHIP: Bloom center is just exactly what is - TopicsExpress

VILLAGES OF BLOOM TOWNSHIP: Bloom center is just exactly what is name implies, it is the center of Bloom Township. Frederick Frankfather and his family first arrived at Section 15 in Bloom Township on June 13, 1834. They were the fifth family to settle in Bloom Township, and the first to occupy the area of what would later become Bloom Center. Bloom Center lies about a mile and a half north of the Eagleville Ridge, and is surrounded by some of the most fertile soil in the state of Ohio. During the years of its prime, Bloom Center had a church, a school, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, and a couple of stores. A literary society was organized at Bloom Center on April 1, 1876, and its membership embraced twenty males and twenty-two females, who collected with the object of improving their knowledge of history, letters, and sciences. The Bloom Township garage and meeting house is now located at Bloom Center, and the old school building still stands, but is obscured by many trees. The Bloom Center Church has been closed for some years, and has now been converted into a residential dwelling. For a few years, there was a post office at the junction of the Huffman and Oil Center Roads named Mungen, but it didnt last very long. There are no traces of the blacksmith shop nor the sawmill remaining today, and Bloom Center is really not much more than a populated cross road area. Over the past few weeks, I have tried to enlighten you on history of the formulation of Bloom Township, who its earliest pioneer settlers were, and a little about the villages and communities that grace Bloom Township. If I have overlooked the names of any persons or places, it was purely unintentional. I enjoyed telling you about Bloom Township and its early inhabitants, and I hope that those of you that grew up there, or are presently living there, have as many fond memories of the township as I do.
