VOTE "NO"... I pray that the taxpayers of Bethel are wise enough to turn down this sale. Yes, it is going to cost us. But the costs will be spread out over all the townspeople, rather than only the small group of the ratepayers. Look at Fairfield, CT. Aquarion is asking for an additional 18% after getting over 11% already. Aquarion is asking Ridgefield, CT 19%, First Selectman Rudy Marconi is appalled. They have to recover their costs with rate increases. Yes, they promised 3 years of no raises, then they will go for maximum allowed to recoup their investments. Those costs will be borne only by the customers. As a citizen, I think it more fair to spread the costs. PURA seems to give them whatever they request, despite strong opposition from ratepayers. Bethel can operate at a break even basis, Aquarian is a for profit company. In addition, despite promises from Mr. Knickerbocker, Aquarion has NOT committed in writing to allow full access to Bethel’s jewel of open space. Their track record on the 9,000 acres of STATE land is dreadful. Two small trails, on which nothing but foot travel s allowed…no dogs,no bikes, etc are allowed. Why does anyone think they will treat Bethel differently? Most naive to think so. Let’s invest, as we have not done and should have, and protect our natural resources. Yes, easier to abandon the whole thing to Aquarion, but wrong for the people of Bethel. We are meeting Tuesday July 16 at 3:00, in front of the Municipal Center 1 School Street to spread the news...VOTE "NO"! A machine vote will take place Thursday, July 18 from 6:00 am - 8:00 pm at the Bethel Town Hall. Please come and vote...
