VOTING AS PARTICIPTION (TOOL FOR DEVELOPMENT) Voting is a broad field on which every eligible citizen participates in societal development. Here voting can be regarded as a tool for gathering human experiences in determination of the future of a particular nation. This is the greatest attribute of democracy, the people’s medium to decide who control/rule the nation. The idea and desire of an individual is reveal or represented by his/her with which you are convinced that national development can be attain. Likewise, voting is a means for the people to out personality or idea that are not working. If a government failed, it can be vote out while seeking re-election. It is important to vote because what we make of the ballot, we make of the government and the activities of the government go a long deal in affecting our endeavors. However, voting as a tool for participating in governance is been hindered by some factors in Nigeria. There are no favourable terrains for the people to participate freely. People are intimidated with money, military and hoodlums. Another factor militating against wide spread participation is ignorance and superstition. Some religious refuse to vote because it is believe that voting is firth, do you know you can vote without involving in it firths? Some citizen ordinarily refuse to regard it as a role to vote and canvass for free and fair election, such people preferred to be paid to vote. The change we desire will not be attainable until we see voting as scared activities in which we choose what we want for the society, we should long to participate freely and rightly.
