News Release 28 July 2014 NGCP completes Typhoon Glenda repairs A little over a week after Typhoon Glenda disrupted the flow of power through the South Luzon transmission grid, NGCP, the country’s sole electric transmission service provider, completed restoring all its damaged transmission and sub-transmission lines. NGCP restored the 122 lines affected by Typhoon Glenda in just 11 days after the typhoon made landfall, making its full services available to all its South Luzon and Bicol grid customers. On July 27, NGCP energized its last remaining lines in Quezon province – Gumaca-Atimonan and Gumaca-Hondagua-Tagkawayan 69-kilovolt (kV) lines. Much earlier, just two days after the typhoon made landfall, NGCP completed restoration of all transmission facilities servicing Metro Manila, despite the massive damage brought by Typhoon Glenda to transmission facilities. “Despite the bad weather condition, we fulfilled our promise to restore facilities within two weeks, doing ourselves one better by completing our work ahead of schedule. Our line personnel in the field have been working 24/7 in the past week to restore our lines to fulfil our commitment to the public,” said Henry Sy, Jr., NGCP President and CEO. “Our System Operations personnel worked tirelessly to keep the grid intact, despite the almost unmanageable system imbalance caused by sudden loss of load. Our Operations and Maintenance frontliners, particularly in South Luzon, were deployed to immediately repair our lines and restore power to those affected, again risking life and limb to bring transmission services back to our customers. And in the true spirit of bayanihan, line personnel from North Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao also joined in the restoration activities, making our efforts in South Luzon faster and more efficient,” Mr. Sy added. NGCP assures the public that it is ready to conduct similar disaster management activities to ensure reliable power transmission service. The corporation is also continuously taking necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of succeeding tropical storms and other disasters on NGCP operations and facilities. ###
