(VOV) – Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong on October 8 led a Vietnamese delegation on a working visit to France in furtherance of elevating bilateral ties and the strategic partnership between the two nations. During a working session with the French Parliament’s First Vice President Laurence Dumont, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong briefed on the development history of Vietnam’s NA and cooperative ties with France. She thanked the French Government, Parliament and people for their fine sentiment and support for Vietnam’s national construction and defence. Ms Phong said Vietnam has fulfilled its responsibilities in international issues and signed several international conventions. The country’s legislative body has gradually fine-tuned its legal system. French Parliament’s First Vice President Laurence Dumont, in turn, emphasised the French Parliament and Government want to promote cooperation with Vietnam. Ms Dumont said she will convey Vietnam’s request for cooperation to the French Government’s relevant agencies. She expressed her wish that Vietnam will play a key role in the region and the Francophone community, especially in the education field as Vietnam has a large number of students studying in France. At the meeting with the France-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Group, Ms Phong highlighted the efficiency of cooperative projects between the group and Vietnam. Vice Chairwoman Phong said her visit aims to promote the strategic partnership, mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties and consolidate mutual trust. For his part, President of the France-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Group, Pascal Deguilhem emphasized the need to promote cooperation in ensuring trade balance, and enhancing France and Vietnam’s international profile. On October 9, the delegation laid a wreath in commemoration of the late President Ho Chi Minh at his Monument in Paris and held important working sessions with leaders of the Senate.
