#VOX_POP (YOUR VOICE) CREATING A NEW HAFLONG BASED ON HARMONY AND MUTUAL RESPECT! Anger, hatred and jealousy can never solve problems. Only affection, concern and respect can do that- Dalai Lama Nothing seems more apt than the above lines of the spiritual leader to emphasise the point that the genuine cosmopolitan spirit of HAFLONG should not be allowed to be ruptured/damaged by partisan and parochial call of communal voices to disintegrate the people of HAFLONG. The greatest strength of HAFLONG has been the age-hold nurtured sense of harmony among the people of various tribes/communities (Dimasas,Kukis,Nagas,Hmars,Jaintia Khasis,Baite,Nepalis,Bengalis,Assamese,Karbis,Deshwalis, etc.), which helped the blossoming of a most liberal outlook/attitude amongst the people of Haflong, rarely seen and felt in other parts of North-east...this very attitude has enabled people of Haflong to proudly and practically demonstrate their warm-heartedness when they go outside and win the hearts of other people with their adaptibility! It is only due to the intrusion of parochial outsiders (whichever tribe they belong to) in Haflong and their narrow-minded warped sense of intolerance, insecurity, hatred and jealousy that we began to see the slow erosion of our liberal, compassionate attitude. Those parochial groups of people must now be reined in by all sections of genuine and thoughtful people of HAFLONG. We must reject their call for further disunity of the people of HAFLONG on the basis of our ethnic/tribal identities, because we are all interdependent to each other. If we listen to the divisive forces, the worst sufferers would be our children of tomorrow, who have to walk hand in hand for the new world that is being created every passing day. Let us take a pledge that we should not get fooled by people who are selfishly motivated by their personal ambition of power and pelf and who have little ability to contribute to a united, peaceful and prosperous HAFLONG. WE DESERVE A MORE PEACEFUL, HARMONIOUS, LESS DISRUPTIVE AND MORE PROGRESSIVE HAFLONG! ~~~~Bankim Phonglo
