Valuing Volunteers – a Celebration Christchurch Community - TopicsExpress

Valuing Volunteers – a Celebration Christchurch Community Partnership is marking its 10th anniversary on Wednesday July 10th at 5pm in the Baptist Church, Bargates, Christchurch. All welcome. Local voluntary and charitable organisations will be able to display literature and information, and give a 60 second resume about their work and appeal for volunteers. We will be launching our new annual competition, Christchurch Volunteer of the Year Award. It aims to raise the profile of volunteering in Christchurch and to recognise the invaluable contribution to the community that is made by all volunteers. It does not matter how they volunteer, or where they volunteer in the Borough of Christchurch and Highcliffe: it may be someone who looks after an elderly neighbour throughout the week; or volunteers at a local tourist attraction like Highcliffe Castle; or who works in an unpaid capacity for a local charity. Entry forms are available at christchurchcommunitypartnership.org.uk/events/ A highlight of the evening will be the official launch of CCP’s most significant project to date, Christchurch Angels. Funded by Dorset Community Foundation, Sovereign Housing and NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, it aims to offer short-term befriending to local people in times of crisis – for instance, a young mother whose ill health prevents her from taking her children to school, someone who comes out of hospital without a network of support etc. Project Leader Linda Green will be available to talk to people who would like to volunteer and tell them more about the voluntary service which will be based at Stour Surgery, 49 Barrack Road, Christchurch BH23 1PA. During September, as soon as the initial Angels have been recruited and trained, a pilot scheme will start, matching Angels with people in need of some support.
