Vancouver - Robin Silvester, President & Chief Executive Officer, Port Metro Vancouver, today announced an acceleration of the plan to reform the Port’s Truck Licensing System, also known as TLS. “In alignment with the previously announced 14-point Joint Action Plan, we are today moving forward with an acceleration of the plan to reform the Port Metro Vancouver’s Truck Licensing system,” said Silvester ”We will be informing TLS license and permit holders of this today.” This is an accelerated reform that comes after months of consultation with industry, trucking companies and federal and provincial governments through Port Metro Vancouver’s Smart Fleet program, and has benefited from the work of Vince Ready and his discussions with truck operators. The reform aims to create a more stable trucking industry. Details of the new system will be developed through engagement with stakeholders, and the system is expected to be in place in June of 2014. Port Metro Vancouver will not be renewing licenses or permits in the current system that are soon to expire. In particular, today the port will be notifying 100-150 of those with licenses and permits that expire at the end of March and the end of April that their TLS licenses or permits will not be renewed. “We expect everyone with a license or permit to be at work tomorrow,” continued Silvester “I cannot imagine why we would issue future licenses or permits under the new licensing system to truck drivers who are not at work tomorrow.” -
