Vancouverites! (yes Ive had too much coffee...) Here is a project I am not in any way involved with (wish I was), but support wholeheartedly, and am writing City Council to tell them so (Transit Oriented development, homes for some of the 35,000 people who move to Metro every year and those here who want to live in the city and will never afford a SF home, reuse of a landwasting mall, etc). None of our sacred single family homes will be harmed in this exercise! (go up in select transit nodes, or tear them all down and start over again if the city is to accommodate our existing growth, me thinks!). I encourage you as city dwellers to check it out and also send your thoughts to Council (whether you like it, hate it, or just have questions) by Tuesday, March 11. Participate in the future of your City (also call your mum, floss your teeth and vote!). Support petition : oakridge2025.ca/support COV Web: vancouver.ca/home-property-development/oakridge-redevelopment.aspx email: [email protected] (make sure to note your address) Some highlights include: · 2,900 residential homes –290 of market rental; 290 of social housing; 50% of the non-market housing (social housing) will be 2 + 3 bedrooms for families · A new 70,000 Civic Centre – including a new public library, a 9,000 sf day care facility, a seniors centre + exercise facilities · A 9 acre public park on the roof – including 1Ž2 mile running loop, tai chi pavilion, public community gardens, kids play area, etc · This community benefit package has been valued at $150Million by the City (largest the City has seen which makes sense due to the size of the rezoning) · Doubling retail on site – including up to 4 – 6 new restaurants (potentially on this roof top park) · Quadrupling office currently on-site (more jobs on transit routes) · An estimated 2 billion in capital investment
