Various separatists groups have called for a complete shutdown in areas going to polls on December 2. In a statement, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani said “elections are aimed to dilute the Kashmir issue.” He urged people to boycott the polls. “I make a fervent appeal to people of Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara, Langate, Noorabad, Kulgam, Homshalibugh, Devsar, Poonch, Mendhar and Surankote to boycott the so-called elections and observe complete strike against it,” Geelani said in a statement. Hurriyat Conference (M) has also called for shutdown in districts scheduled to go for polls on December 2. “The staged election in Kashmir is a futile exercise. People should observe complete strike in districts where the sham elections would be conducted on December 2,” Hurriyat (M) spokesperson said in a statement. Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-MillatSayeedaAsiyaAndrabi also called shutdown on December 2 in Kulgam and Kupwara districts. “I want to remind the people of Kulgam and Kupwara to desist from taking part in polling and show solidarity with Martyers, prisoners, destitute and all victims of brutality by India forces. Kashmiris have to prove character of loyal and faithful freedom loving people,” she said. Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir has also called for shutdown on December 2.
