Vegetarians Argue with a Buddhist. Theravada and Mahayana. I think there was a conversation between Shakyamuni and a monk in Old Path White Clouds by Thich Nhat Hanh. The monk asked Shakyamuni about eating meat. Shakyamuni said: when people will understand the Dharma they will only give us Vegetarian food. So from this I think Shakyamuni would like for us to eat Vegetarian food. He was in the progress of changing the mind of the people. Just as women were not allowed in the beginning, but later he let them in the Sangha. I think we have to look at the local culture of that time and the changes Shakyamuni was making, step by step. youtu.be/uDBcPPDQV9Q
