Vent warning!! So we took Allie to college this am and got everything unloaded smoothly. We waited for her room mate to get here before unpacking so that the kids could decide together where to put things. Allie was so excited and so was I. Such a beautiful campus and wonderful old brick dorm with transitional slate roof. The girls room was smaller than expected with only one two foot wide closet. Allies clothes fit in half just fine. Her roomie got there shortly and all the decisions made with all parents present. After about 1/2 hour working together to clean and arrange furniture roomies mother started to complain aggressively about the size of the room. Then she started to complain about the heat. Then the size of the closet (granted the description of the room listed it as having two closets). Allie was fine with all of this and happily set about arranging her things. After about an hour of the mother complaining and calling anyone from the school she could get a hold of to complain to, the roomie started crying. The mother complained for two and one half hours and the girl cried for two hours. I spent two and one half hours trying to console the roomies mom and coming up with positive imagery ie) it will be cooler in a couple of weeks, they could try to get a small wardrobe for the girls multitude of clothes, etc., instead of enjoying a wonderful experience setting up my daughters new home. Allie took it all in stride but I left feeling bitter.....when I wanted to feel bittersweet.
