Very brief, but an important lesson here: your Active Self Protection has to be ingrained BEFORE the encounter. You must be ready when it comes your way, because there is no time to think. Lessons: 1. Running away is no guarantee of safety. Its not a bad strategy if you can execute it, but this shows that running away can easily get you killed. What attitude, skills, and plan do you have to fight rather than flee? 2. If you do have to run, have the tenacity to run no matter what! I cant be sure, but this looks like a psychological stop to me. One shot and it doesnt appear to be in the head...so it was likely that he dropped from the shock. Dont be that person! Instead, if youre running, RUN UNTIL THEY ABSOLUTELY KILL YOU DEAD. 3. Hesitation likely got this man killed. He stood and formulated and thought, and perp #1 had his hands on him before he decided to make a break for it. If you have to wait, do something nasty to the guy who has hands on you before you bolt. If you whack that first guy really seriously, it may give you the edge in the OODA loop to get away before the gun wielder can get it back on track to you. Attitude. Skills. Plan.
