Very busy and information packed couple of days. We began - TopicsExpress

Very busy and information packed couple of days. We began yesterday with a full assessment of Williams needs, range of motion, preferences, strengths, areas he needs supports, exercises we can include in our physio routines, discussions of our lifestyle and also of our needs at home. This all led to the initial measurements, design, base selection, tray selection and look of his custom chair. The physiotherapist then gave every specific detail to a lovely, patient gentleman who would finish his day by building the first take on this chair. We then met with our fabulous rehabilitation doctor/specialist. She was so happy to see that since our last meeting William was far more comfortable and happy. She was happy with growth and was happy with all the things we have been doing with William. She was supportive of everything and was very complimentary of the ways we have adapted to William and also adapted things for William. She was incredibly positive and it was heartwarming to watch her with sweet William. It was like she knew him forever. Her experience with children like William was refreshing and you could see the intense insight into his world. After hours at the hospital, we got to head out for dinner and see some of the Christmas here in Vancouver. The lights were beautiful and William was loving it! Today we went back for the fitting. Every detail was examined for William. From comfort to positioning to how he would interact in it was all discussed and many modifications were made right on the spot - it was absolutely incredible to watch the magicians at work. William was a trooper and gave us many smiles despite going in and out of the chair for every step. Despite the fact that we were not able to take his chair home today, it left us with a feeling of excitement for all the possibilities. Williams chair is now being finished and covered and we will make another trip for final fitting in the new year. Things to come in the very near future are a standing device and also a walking device. Despite all the hard work over the last couple days, William and I did get our first snuggly naps together and our time together alone has only strengthened our bond. We are a good team. Lastly, I will say thank you to a family that I met in the family room. You gave me some perspective and answered questions that no one else has been able to. It was an amazing experience to have met you. Now we anxiously wait to get home and settle back into the routine. Christmas concerts, parties, visiting with friends and spending time with our family. Now we can enjoy with our minds at ease and knowing that we can make it work. The possibilities are endless. Despite the positivity, I know this will be a long road. It is trying and exhausting and often times a fight but there is light. Seeing William smile is a light and so are the countless amount of people in our life that support and love us. Thank you for reading and supporting our little warriors journey.
