In late 2013, new enforcement procedures went into effect that put motor carriers who fail to update their registration at risk for fines or deactivation of their USDOT Number. Fines for noncompliance can be up to $1,000 per day, not to exceed $10,000. Motor carriers are required to file an update even if there have been no changes to their information. Updates can be completed online or by mail, phone, or fax.
