Very interesting article on a subject we all know (even only the musicians and composers want to address it - no wonder). On a slightly different, and then again not, note: I recently performed a web search on my own name. I do that from time to time to find possible news on records Ive played on, libraries to which my music has been added etc. One of the search results was actually my name tied up with the logo and URL of the piracy streaming service SPOTIFY. Now I shun Spotify and wish to see it bankrupt tomorrow. Im not signed anyway, and will fight hard to avoid having my music given away there, while record companies (as shareholders in Spotify) earns a ton - in the free version primarily on advertizing by third parties. All this while people, in principle, come to their site to listen to me (and a lot of other folks like me). As I do not have any music on Spotify, the use of my name as a keyword (maybe bought at Google) to guide unsuspecting customers to their piracy site must constitute a legal issue. I was never asked, and had I been, Id have said NO! They can expect to hear from me. Probably cant afford to sue them, but Im certainly old west enough to explore alternative avenues to stop this screwing people into their shitty operation, using MY name >;-]
