Very sad incident and advice. I recently visited a place for a meeting. In this meeting were many people including a school headmaster. I was approached by this headmaster. (The following dialogue ensued) Headmaster: How is the beginning of the Islamic year calculated, from the birth of the prophet Mohammed or from his demise? Mufti Sahib: Neither. In fact it is calculated from the migration of our Prophet. When he left Makkah and travelled to Madinah. The headmaster began to look at me puzzled and confused Headmaster: Ive asked so many (Muslim) people this very question before. Some have misinformed me that it is from the birth of the Prophet whilst others have told me the new year is recognised from the death of the Prophet. (After informing me of this encounter Mufti Sahib then said to me in great sadness...) How lamentable and sad it is that so many of us dont even know of the major incidents in the Seerah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ We should ourselves study the Seerah and make it a habit of it being taught amongst our families within our homes. ADMIN - This point that Hadhrat made should make us want to drown in shame. How sad indeed it is when our homes can pass days, months and even years on end and there is not one mention of our beautiful Prophet ﷺ from the lips of any person who resides within. How then do we expect Allah Taala to fill our homes with his mercy and blessings. We fail to remember his beloved, why should He remember us. Allah save us. Allah save us. Allah save us.
