Very saddened by the news today. Most Muslims are peaceful and it would be stupid to try and criticize Muslims, because each person is an individual. I do worry about some ideas in Islam I read the most respected Mohammeds biography (Sira), over the holidays, Ibn Ishaqs Sirat Rasul Allah. Not a pleasant read. I think we need to stop calling these murderers Muslim Radicals. The Quran says over and over to follow the perfect example of Mohammed and Mohammed ordered the deaths of many who criticized him. Good examples are the murders of Asma bint Marwan, murdered in her sleep, for composing a critical poem and Abu Afak, also murdered for composing critical poetry. These are not controversial stories, they accepted by Islam. Their critical poems were not nearly as critical as what these cartoonists were publishing. Muslims that study Mohammeds life will always be able to point to examples like Asma and Afak to justify the murders of anyone critical of Mohammed and Islam. That is what they did today. I bet those men dont consider themselves radical. They were following the life example of Mohammed on how to respond to public criticism of Mohammed and Islam. We hear about Islam being a religion of peace, probably because Mohammed also had many patient and peaceful responses to criticism and even humiliation, but that was earlier in his life, when he had few followers. The collected stories of Mohammeds life plus the Quran is what makes up Islam. Read Mohammeds complete life story, not just the cherry picked sweet parts. The terrorists are. It should be a topic of discussion, even though it is critical of a religion.
