Very very interesting! I have now had responses from several major retailers advising that they have discounted Andover due to the demographics of the town. One cited that there are too many D / E group households as a proportion of the population, and that low to non existent levels of disposable income in these households made the town unviable for a new store opening. Another retailer commented that they had previously investigated Andover and had found that the town had a particular concentration of discount retail. A further retailer commented that they viewed the town as being of a dormitory nature, lacking in a key draw to make it a viable location for them. Put simply, it seems that there are not enough affluent members of the town to make it worthwhile for higher end retailers to come in.....................
