Very, very proud of Blackwood Ridge Halvor today at Kyabram Agricultural Show. It was his first show without a friend to accompany him and this was a big step for Halvor, who tends to cling to his paddock mates. At the outset I told him all I asked for the day was that he tried to relax in the strange environment and focused on my instructions - whether he placed or not was entirely immaterial. However Hal (I suspect a little put out by Gus champion last week - Gus has been boasting) had other ideas! Apart from a couple of nervous little prances early on, Halvor handled things beautifully. He placed first in his buckskin gelding class and then reserve champion buckskin gelding. He was also third best presented buckskin in a large class (a miracle! I never thought I could achieve such a thing with Hal, as his white coat is a dirt magnet!) He gave kisses to the judge, accepted pats from a number of spectators and kindly attempted to assist the steward by attempting to take her program out of her hands to hold it for her (I have a feeling the intention was actually to eat it, but we didnt mention that to the steward). Clever boy!
