Vesicular Stomatitis Update: On November 22, 2014 Vesicular Stomatitis, New Jersey serotype, was confirmed in cattle on a premises in Wheeler County Nebraska. Nebraska has been added to the list of 2014 VS Affected States. To date, a total of four hundred twenty-nine (429) VSV-positive premises have been confirmed in three U.S. states, Nebraska (1 premises), Colorado (366 premises) and Texas (62 premises). As of today, a total of three hundred twenty-three (323) premises in Colorado have been released from quarantine. As of October 13, 2014, all confirmed VSV-positive premises in Texas have been released from quarantine. Reminder : Vesicular Stomatitis Requirements for Importing Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Goats and Swine into California from Colorado and Nebraska All horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and swine *originating from any state where vesicular stomatitis (VS) has been diagnosed since May 27, 2014, (except cattle and swine transported directly to slaughter) must be accompanied by a health certificate (certificate of veterinary inspection) and signed by an accredited veterinarian that includes the following statement: “I have examined all the animals identified on this certificate and found them to be free from signs of Vesicular Stomatitis (VS). During the last thirty (30) days, these animals have not been exposed to VS nor located within a ten (10) mile radius of a premises where VS has been diagnosed.” *For purposes of this requirement, “originating” means horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and swine that initially leave the VS infected state and come to California, or those that leave any state, visit an infected state, and then return to California. ** The Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) for California horses returning to California from a VS Affected State must include the VS statement written by an Accredited Veterinarian in the VS Affected State.
