Veterans Day in the U.S. was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate the 11th hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918 when the first, global conflict, World War I, ended. Some 10 million military personnel on all sides died in it, including nearly 120,000 Americans. Because it is estimated that Russia alone suffered the greatest number of military fatalities (up to 2.25 million), I think it entirely fitting to commemorate all these deaths with the traditional, Russian Orthodox Kontakion of the Dead. Remembering today my Moms two brothers, Wm. Roddell (died at Normany) and Jas. Roddell, (lost a leg at the Battle of the Bulge): Vechnaya Pamyat ...Memory Eternal. youtu.be/0ekoDO_4PBA
