Vetting a candidate is the process of subjecting a person to a series of tests and evaluation process. I told a friend last week Im already tired of candidates Courting our Favor. I dont care how many generations youve been an Arkansan, or how long youve been married or how many kids you have. I want to know how you are going to affect me and my family, and this State. I also suggested that the official-to-be come and sit across the table and let us tell them what we are looking for in a candidate. I suggest you create your own set of questions that just may tell you whether or not the politician deserves your vote. Your challenge could even result in steering that person in a better direction. Question one; what have/will you do (specifically) to limit the size, scope and authority of government in our lives? Listen very closely and be prepared to ask clarifying questions. Most career politicians walk and talk like Patriots but don’t ACT like Patriots. It is one thing to be tricked by campaign speeches it is yet another thing to expect someone who is running for public office to know what their plan is to limit government. Limiting government is not just about voting against increasing government but more importantly proactively shrinking the size, scope and authority of government. Question two; what will you do (again specifically) to end redistributive tax policies and reduce our individual tax burden? This is a very important question as it will tell you what his political philosophy is by the answer. There are only two ways to grow and two ways to shrink government and neither is mutually exclusive. The first is through legislation and the second is through taxation and you can’t do one without the other. While individual tax rates continue to grow, tax rates to special interests continue to receive special tax treatment. Regardless of ideology if you use tax policy to favor or to punish a specific demographic YOU are participating in redistributive tax policy and political zombie. Question three; what will you do to help Americans regain their individual Liberty? While this question may appear open ended it really is not. If the politician begins to speak about what law or regulation he wants to champion remember that whenever you attempt to levelized a playing field instead of ensuring a level playing field Liberty is at risk. President Reagan said it best when he said, “The American dream is not that every man must be level with every other man. The American dream is that every man must be free to become whatever God intends he should become.” So this political season remember the three questions you should always ask; what will you DO to limit government, what will you DO to end redistributive tax policy and what will you Do to improve the citizen’s individual Liberty. Once we can get past empowering politicians by asking what they can do for us we will see a resurgence of Liberty like never before. A citizens love of Liberty is defined by the length he will go to defend the Liberty of others.
