Via Burt...Popeye from the Beginning #151: Safari So Good (1947). Popeye and Olive are supposedly on a harmless sort of African safari (the photographic kind), but as we well know by now, that won’t matter…Bluto, or one of those pesky clones of his—in this case, nursing a Tarzan complex—can turn up **anywhere**! No worries…with the timely arrival of a helpful little monkey (another of those Famous Studios funny animals that obviously subscribe to Popeye Comics, also available right down the block from this theatre), Popeye still stands to win the day. Plus, our randomly selected, non-Popeye, classic B&W cartoon (see link in Comments): Love’s Labor Won (1933), one of those ultra-quirky, ultra-New York-y Van Beuren shorts starring Cubby the Operetta-Loving Bear—and animated, in part, by the also ultra-quirky (to say nothing of legendary) Jim Tyer. And coming up on Monday: All’s Fair at the Fair (1947)—together with a **different** live-action co-feature (since we’ve quite unexpectedly run out of available East Side Kids dramedies…so long, Kids; you’ve served us well). We’d like to keep its title a surprise in the meantime, but here’s a hint: You’ll have to become a serial thinker for the next 12 weeks, and bone up this weekend on your magic words. **Toot!**
