Via CarrickfergusNI A fun day in Carrick this weekend is receiving a financial boost through the Department of Social Development’s Revitalisation scheme. The event, which will be held in Market Place on March 22, is being organised by Carrickfergus Borough Council in partnership with the department. It aims to draw shoppers back into the town centre, which benefitted from a £2.5million upgrade last year with the completion of the public realm scheme. A statement from DSD read: “Towns awarded funding under the Revitalisation scheme can receive support for marketing/promotions to support vitality in the area and to attract more visitors, including costs of hosting events. “The Revitalisation scheme is primarily targeted at improving the external appearance of properties in a defined area within the town centre. “Events should encourage more visitors and shoppers to come and view the town centre improvements including new natural stone footways and public areas as well as external improvements to properties. “This could lead to new development opportunities and provide a more attractive retail environment.”
