Victoria Osteens truthful comment! All the pious chatter about Victoria Osteens comments regarding what we do in worship being not so much for God but for ourselves, is both accurately honest and true. In fact, in reality, everything about Christianity and many other religions, including salvation, tends to be self-centered and self-serving whether we admit it or not. Any God who needs us more than we need him or It, is not omnipotent, but dependent on our human feebleness to define or refine Him/It. It seems Victorias detractors ignore the Apostle Pauls words in Acts 17: 24-26: 24The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25 nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; 26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation… Many people love God, but only as scripture says, because he first loved us. (1John 4:19) More people use God, faith, religion and worship as a fire escape anyway. Who are we kidding, besides ourselves when we act is if our pious fidelity is the entire or even primary reason and motivation for worshipping God, going to church, paying tithes, etc? We even teach and are taught to give that we may receive. Is not that more about us than God? Many church folk, especially preachers steadily look for reasons to attack the Osteens, who are impacting millions whom average churches and preachers dont, havent and wont. There is obviously lots of egoic jealousy out there toward these very sweet and pure people, who never expected to be put in the position theyre in but are trying to manage their celebrity status as best they can while maintaining a pure and effective ministry. Christianity has never just been about Christ, but about what he can, has or will do for people (primarily Christians), another bigoted farce within the dogma of the religion. We have much to learn and unlearn with the over 2000 years of entrenched indoctrination. We can, must and will do better when it comes to facing facts and truth. What say you?
