Victory For Mesquite In my journey to turn Mesquite around in a better direction these past few years--theres been good days and frustrating days. Most of you know I was very frustrated at the passing of the Villas At Vanston Park Apartments some weeks back. But then there are days like today when the peoples interests get put first! Tonight instead of granting the developers request of increasing per acre 24 apartments to 38--we as a city council voted unanimously to actually decrease the number of apartments from 24 to 12 units per acre! Hopefully, this setback will cause the developer to reconsider building apartments and come up with a better development that will benefit our city. Im so proud of all the citizens that were in attendance tonight holding up their NO signs and all those who spoke against the project during the public hearing. Tonight was a real testimony that evening council meetings are a blessing for our city! Tonight was also a victory for our many hard working MISD employees who are already overwhelmed by many students from apartments that have come in these past few years and more to come with the two recent complexes being built. Those employees need to be able to work closely with the many students they already have--not have to build more portables! Id like to thank my colleagues Greg Noschese and Dennis Tarpley for their leadership tonight--and all my council colleagues who supported the will of the people! Greg did a great job of questioning the developer and putting holes developers case! Mesquite is coming back! I believe in Mesquite!!! Bruce Archer Mesquite City Council Place 3
