Video: White Pelicans at Goosepond Embrace Technology, Use It Responsibly: Yesterday we used the DJI Phantom 2 Vision + to see if it would be a good tool to use for bird counts. Goosepond FWA, located in Greene County, is one of the most successful wetlands projects in the nation. It is a true Indiana treasure that is recognized by bird enthusiasts worldwide. Right now, there is a large amount of White Pelicans at GP. After the feasibly test, I went to an area with pelicans and wading birds such as egrets and Great Blue Herons. My goal was to get photographs from about 40 high. To my surprise, my drone was almost taken out by a bi-plane pilot having too much fun! (I may have a video of that). As you will see in this short video, I paused the drone flight a ways back from a bunch of pelicans that were enjoying the water. The pelicans, seemingly unfazed by the drone, did scatter off a bit. Then you will see how the group flying felt very comfortable around it. So comfortable, they actually flew with it. It is an amazing sight that I am fortunate to be able to share with you. Watch in HD, and feel free to share with your friends. For more information, check out the IDNRs website for Goosepond.
