Vietnam Revisited (1992) Part 1 This is an amazing look back into Vietnams recent history and indeed my own history as this film was made 4 years after my first trip to Ho Chi Minh City and two years after my first trip to Hanoi. This video contains 58 parts and is a C-Span documentary of the US Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA affairs fact finding trip for the purpose of eventual normalization of relations. On one hand the film is slow but on the other includes some genuine suspense as one of the members of the committee namely senator Kerry was given authority to travel to suspected MIA sites and to direct his helicopter be put down anywhere on demand while in Vietnam. Regardless... for anyone who has lived in Vietnam during this time every moment of every segment of this documentary is fascinating. There is hardly a place which I have not yet been including the Army guesthouse in Hanoi where the reporters first stayed. For mostly better but in some cases worse there is very little resemblance between present day Vietnam and that which is shown here. And for anyone who might see things in this film which they would like to discover for themselves by traveling to Vietnam they will be sadly disappointed. But that said... there still remains an irresistable charm which will fascinate most visitors. Ps. Some of the material is actually pretty funny. The main reporter Brian Lamb in one segmant is walking around HCMC with a Vietnamese-American consultant asking both interesting but also stupid questions. For example, while walking on the street he directs his consultant and his camera crew onto the grounds of a highschool. Eventually, someone at the school asks him to stop filming. He asks the consultant why are they giving him trouble. She retorts rather correctly ... just like in America ... you just cant walk onto the grounds of a highschool with a film crew and start filming without being questionned!!!
