TO: ALL SHOP STEWARDS AND WORKPLACE REPRESENTATIVES Re: Lockout at Greyhound Recycling Dear Member, I am writing to seek your help for our members in Greyhound Recycling who have been locked out since 17th June. When they reported for work that day the company would not allow them to start until they agreed to new contracts entailing an average 35% cut in pay. When they refused, they were immediately replaced by other workers supplied by an agency. The pay cut would have meant a reduction from €14.40 an hour to €9.90 for an operative, i.e., €4.50. If the company succeeds with this strategy other employers will follow suit and nobody’s job will be safe. However, they can only succeed if workers continue to give their business to them. Together we can stop this ‘race to the bottom’ very simply. We can do so if every Greyhound customer contacts the company at telephone number 1890 989 998 and objects to the way it is treating its workers. They should ask the company to allow its employees to return to work on the terms of their existing Collective Agreement, pending negotiations. I am asking you to bring this critically important matter to the attention of your members and urge them to help break the Lockout. The attached leaflet and poster can be displayed on noticeboards and used as flyers. Further copies can be obtained by contacting SIPTU Communications Department, Tel. 01-8586372 or email [email protected]. Thanking you in anticipation of your assistance.
