VinaPhone and MobiFone gloriously conquer market difficulties The world economy in general and Vietnam’s economy in particular have continued to face with difficulties regarding growth due to the global financial crisis, and it was telecom service providers who suffered most last year in Vietnam. However, last year Vinaphone’s company growth rate was the highest it’s been in the past 17 years and the company continues to hold its #3 mobile phone operator position in Vietnam. MobiFone last year took second position in the V1.000, the 1,000 enterprises which paid the largest amount of taxes in Vietnam, and it is the operator that has the highest average revenue per unit and the highest productivity per staff member in the market. Gloriously conquer market difficulties in 2012 VinaPhone shines With telecom services revenue of approximately VND25 trillion ($1.19 billion) by the end of 2012, VinaPhone was on the Enterprise Club list with revenue exceeding $1 billion. VinaPhone’s network capability includes 28,200 base transceiver stations – BTS (18,700 BTS for its 2G network and 9,500 BTS for its 3G network) and 45 switchboards to serve up to 63 million subscribers. The number of activated subscribers generating revenue increased by 30 per cent against the figure in 2011, equivalent to more than 6 million activated subscribers out of the total 21 million new subscribers last year. VinaPhone has provided approximately 80 value added services to local customers, creating a premise to sharply increase revenue of non-voice services which accounted for over 52 per cent of the total revenue of VinaPhone in comparison with a ratio of 40 per cent in 2011. VinaPhone also held the leading position in the 3G market segment with nearly 7 million 3G subscribers from which revenue increased by 60 per cent over the year. The 3G network and services have been totally optimized and upgraded with thousands of new SingleRAN BTS. The network enabled VinaPhone to cover all residential areas. The traffic through its 3G network also doubled over the year. The network has provided the highest speed for 3G services in the market with the application of HSPA+ (equivalent to 3.5G) for a downlink of up to 21Mbps and an uplink of up to 5.76Mbps. The speed tripled that at launching time in October, 2009, surpassing the speed capability of fixed internet broadband ADSL. The upgrade to 3.5G network has helped VinaPhone operate stably and allows subscribers to enjoy true HD video quality on their mobile phone. The time for data loading as well as online service use is also faster than before. With the network upgrade of over 28,200 BTS including 5,000 new BTS installed and thousands of BTS replaced and shifted last year, VinaPhone has favorable conditions to offer value added services and data services on its 3G network including e-wallet and mobile roaming on the plane.
