Violence at Westgate, the 2007/ 08 Kenyan PEV, the neglected Congo (where 3-6 million Afrikans have died since 2000) and others points to the urgency of creating engines for sustainable youth employment to preempt their use as cannon-fodder by those interested in adjusting regional or global politico-economic order. Even US $ 1 billion in homegrown, affordable, appropriate technology-based housing construction can clear unemployment backlogs in 10 years, with subsequent spin-offs in agriculture, energy, communications and manufacture for a 1.3 billion strong African continental and diaspora market. Recently, the Kenya Police got an additional US $ 0.8 billion as a budget supplement and Westgate still happened, so it is a matter of prioritized vision and a new approach to things.
