Virgin Bonfiglio Miller (Virgie), 82, of Elmhurst, IL and formerly of New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Lexington Rehabilitation Center, with her family by her side, following her courageous battle with cancer. She was born one of nine children on July 14, 1931, to Joseph and Virgin Landry Bonfiglio in Westwego, LA. On April 10, 1948, she married the love of her life, Robert John Miller, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Westwego, La. They celebrated 65 years of marriage last April. Virgie will be deeply missed by her husband and their two children, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Hastings of Portage, IN and Michael (Cindy) Miller of Appleton, WI and grandchildren: Jason (Ronda) Hastings; Jeremy Hastings; Kyle (Nikki Colburn) Miller and Steven Miller; and great grandchildren Hunter, Trevor and Adriana Hastings and Ava Rae Miller. Virgie is further survived by brothers Harold (Nancy) Bonfiglio and Joseph (Marcy) Bonfiglio; sisters Lena Meadows and Rose Hockgraver and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul and Frank (Winifred); sisters Marguerite Bonfiglio, Ruth (Philip) Granier; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Pete and Augusta (Gussie) Hart, brothers-in-law Charles (Junior) Hockgraver and Joseph (J.H.) Meadows, nephews Roger (Pete) Vallee and Joseph S. (Tee Joe) Meadows. Virgie was a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church of Elmhurst, IL since 1977, where she was able to celebrate her strong faith and never-ending love for her God and Savior Jesus Christ. Virgie took special pleasure in southern “Creole” cooking and crocheting many beautiful afghan blankets for her grandchildren and loved ones. She always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren “her little sweethearts”, whom she loved with all her heart. They always couldn’t wait to go spend time at Maw Maw and Paw Paw’s house. The family will receive family and friends at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, 426 N West Ave., Elmhurst, Illinois on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. DiNunno of Elmhurst Center for Cancer and his staff, and all the caring staff of Lexington Rehab Center of Elmhurst. Your care and compassion is much appreciated.
