Virginia Blood Services celebrates ‘Donor-rita-ville’ this August; blood donors receive T-shirt, mugs, chance to win Aug. 16 Jimmy Buffett tickets It wouldn’t be summer without the sounds of steel drums amid Jimmy Buffett’s imaginary “Margaritaville,” so blood supplier Virginia Blood Services this August will get in the tropical mood by transforming its community donation centers and mobile drives to “Donor-Rita-Ville.” Donors will receive numerous giveaways, and be entered in a random drawing to win one of six pairs of Jimmy Buffett tickets at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow on Saturday, Aug. 16. Participating donors who visit any Virginia Blood Services community donor center this month will receive a limited edition T-shirt and hurricane mug. Along with entrance in a random drawing for Jimmy Buffett concert tickets, donors will also be entered to win one of two, “Cheeseburger in Parrot-dise” tabletop grills. “Our goal is to create a fun summer experience for our donors, while supporting life in our communities” says Julie Moore, executive director of Virginia Blood Services. “Even if you’re not familiar with Jimmy Buffett, most of us can conger tropical paradise when we hear the Caribbean sounds of steel drums and enjoy iced drinks. This gets everyone in the relaxed mood, which is the essence of summer.” Summer is a challenging time for Virginia Blood Services, Moore said. Routine blood donors are on vacation, and high schools and colleges are hosting fewer blood drives resulting in decreased collections. All walk-ins are welcome and donors are encouraged to schedule their appointment by visiting vadonor.org. In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification.
